Story through color
To introduce Ashlyn as an artist and establish the image of the brand she is building, with a video that looks like the start of a career.
Ashlyn is a Peruvian artist from Lima. “Terca Soy” (“I Am Stubborn”) is her first official music video, and it kicked off the launch of her album.
I was in charge of the color grade, and I used it as a storytelling tool. I worked shadows carefully so the image wouldn’t break, rescued scenes that looked fragile in the original footage, and built a look that carries the song’s mood and Ashlyn’s image from start to finish. Many of these edits were complicated, but the aim was always to support the story rather than to hide the footage’s limits.
The Challenge
The video was shot on a semi-professional camera rather than a cinema camera, which made many scenes difficult to work with. The footage had limits in shadows and image quality, and the final look still had to feel cinematic and consistent.
Result
The video reached about 6,000 views and more than 450 likes on YouTube, a strong start for an artist beginning from zero.
